Description
The L168 Pleco (Dekeyseria brachyura), also known as the Butterfly Pleco or Butterfly Peckoltia, is a small, visually striking species of pleco native to the freshwater rivers of Brazil. It features a distinctive black and yellow or tan maze-like pattern across its body, which provides excellent camouflage among driftwood and leaf litter in its natural habitat.
Reaching an adult size of around 5 to 6 inches (12 to 15 cm), the L168 Pleco is a relatively peaceful fish, making it suitable for community aquariums. It thrives in soft, slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.0–7.5) with temperatures ranging from 75–82°F (24–28°C).
This species is primarily herbivorous, feeding on biofilm, algae, and plant matter, though it benefits from a varied diet that includes sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein sources. Providing plenty of driftwood and hiding spots is crucial for their well-being, as they are nocturnal and enjoy resting in shaded areas during the day.
The L168 Pleco is a moderate-care-level fish that requires good water quality and a well-maintained tank with adequate filtration. It is a popular choice among pleco enthusiasts due to its unique pattern and manageable size.
