Angelfish, scientifically known as Pterophyllum scalare, are among the most iconic and beloved freshwater aquarium fish species. Revered for their striking appearance, graceful demeanor, and unique body shape, Angelfish have captured the hearts of aquarists worldwide. Native to the Amazon River Basin in South America, they bring a touch of the Amazon's majesty to home aquariums.

Physical Characteristics:

• Size: Angelfish are known for their elegant and elongated bodies, typically reaching a size of 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 centimeters) in height, including their long trailing fins.
• Body Shape: They have a flattened, disc-shaped body with long, flowing fins. Their distinctive body shape resembles the outline of an angel's wings, which lends them their common name.
• Coloration: Angelfish come in various color morphs, but their typical coloration includes a silver or pale gold body adorned with vertical black stripes that run from the dorsal fin to the bottom of the body. Some variations may exhibit other colors, such as black, white, or even albino.
• Finnage: Their dorsal and anal fins are tall and trailing, while their pectoral and pelvic fins are more delicate. Their caudal (tail) fin is typically rounded.

Behavior and Temperament: Angelfish are known for their peaceful yet territorial nature. They can coexist with a wide range of other community fish species but may become aggressive when breeding or if they feel their territory is threatened. It's advisable to keep them with other peaceful tankmates in a spacious aquarium to reduce territorial conflicts.

Habitat and Tank Requirements:

• Tank Size: Angelfish require a tank with a capacity of at least 20 gallons (75 liters) for a pair. Larger tanks are preferable if you plan to keep more individuals or include other tankmates.
• Substrate: Provide a soft substrate like sand or fine gravel, which is more suitable for their delicate barbels and allows foraging behavior.
• Filtration: Efficient filtration and maintenance of water quality are crucial for Angelfish. They are sensitive to poor water conditions, so regular water changes are essential.
• Decor: Create an aquarium with hiding spots such as plants, driftwood, and rocks to offer shelter and security. Live plants can also provide a natural and aesthetically pleasing environment.
• Water Parameters: Angelfish thrive in tropical freshwater conditions with a temperature range of 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C), a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water.

Diet: Angelfish are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet. Offer them high-quality pellets, flakes, frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and a mix of vegetable matter. A balanced diet will promote their health and vibrancy.
