Description
Anubias Heterophylla, also known as the Congo Anubias, is a captivating and hardy aquatic plant that can thrive in a variety of aquarium setups.
1. Lighting:
- Anubias Heterophylla prefers low to moderate lighting conditions. Avoid intense, direct lighting to prevent algae growth on its leaves.
2. Substrate:
- You can attach Anubias Heterophylla to driftwood, rocks, or other aquarium decor using fishing line or thread. It's an epiphytic plant, so it doesn't need to be planted in substrate. Make sure to leave the rhizome exposed.
3. Water Parameters:
- Maintain stable water conditions within the following ranges:
- Temperature: 72-82°F (22-28°C)
- pH: 6.0-7.5
- Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water (2-12 dGH)
4. Fertilization:
- Anubias Heterophylla is not a heavy feeder, so use a balanced liquid or root fertilizer formulated for aquarium plants sparingly. Over-fertilization can harm the plant.
5. Compatibility:
- Anubias Heterophylla is generally compatible with most fish and other aquatic plants. Ensure it receives sufficient light and isn't shaded by faster-growing plants.
6. Pruning:
- Regularly trim yellowing or damaged leaves to encourage new growth. Use sharp scissors or pruning tools to remove these leaves close to the rhizome.
7. CO2 (Carbon Dioxide):
- Anubias Heterophylla can thrive without CO2 supplementation. In fact, it often does better without added CO2, as excessive levels can promote algae growth.
8. Algae Control:
- Maintain a good balance of nutrients, lighting, and water circulation to prevent algae from growing on the leaves. If algae appear, gently wipe them off the plant's surface during water changes.
9. Propagation:
- Anubias Heterophylla can be propagated by dividing the rhizome. Carefully separate the rhizome and attached leaves to create new plants. Ensure you don't damage the rhizome during this process.
