Description

Anubias Nana, often referred to as Dwarf Anubias or Nana, is a popular and hardy aquatic plant known for its compact size and attractive, dark green foliage.

1. Lighting:

  • Anubias Nana is well-suited for low to moderate lighting conditions. Avoid exposing it to intense, direct light, which can lead to algae growth on its leaves.

2. Substrate:

  • Anubias Nana is an epiphytic plant, which means it should not be planted in substrate. Instead, attach it to driftwood, rocks, or other aquarium decor using fishing line or thread. Ensure the rhizome remains exposed.

3. Water Parameters:

  • Maintain stable water conditions with the following parameters:
    • Temperature: 72-82°F (22-28°C)
    • pH: 6.0-7.5
    • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water (2-12 dGH)

4. Water Quality:

  • Regular water changes (approximately 10-20% every 1-2 weeks) are essential to remove accumulated organic matter and maintain optimal water conditions.

5. Fertilization:

  • Anubias Nana is not a heavy nutrient consumer. Use a balanced liquid or root fertilizer specifically formulated for aquarium plants sparingly. Over-fertilization can harm the plant.

6. Compatibility:

  • Anubias Nana is generally compatible with most fish and other aquatic plants. Ensure it receives adequate light and isn't overshadowed by faster-growing plants.

7. Pruning:

  • Trim any yellowing or damaged leaves regularly to stimulate new growth. Use sharp scissors or pruning tools to remove these leaves close to the rhizome.

8. CO2 (Carbon Dioxide):

  • Anubias Nana can thrive without CO2 supplementation. In fact, it often performs better without added CO2, as excessive CO2 levels can promote algae growth.

9. Algae Control:

  • Maintain a proper balance of nutrients, lighting, and water circulation to prevent algae from growing on the leaves. If algae do appear, gently wipe them off during water changes.

10. Propagation:

  • Anubias Nana can be propagated by dividing the rhizome. Carefully separate the rhizome and attached leaves to create new plants. Ensure the rhizome is not damaged during the process.
