Green Jade Shrimp, also known as Neocaridina davidi var. "Green Jade," is a popular freshwater shrimp species that is highly sought after by aquarium enthusiasts. It belongs to the family Atyidae and is a variant of the Neocaridina davidi species.

Green Jade Shrimp are named after their stunning green coloration, which sets them apart from other Neocaridina davidi variants. They exhibit a vivid and vibrant shade of green throughout their bodies, ranging from a bright emerald green to a darker mossy green, creating a striking appearance in the aquarium.

These shrimp have a relatively small size, typically growing to about 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 to 3.8 centimeters) in length. They have a compact body shape with a slightly curved back and a distinctively fan-shaped tail. The females tend to be slightly larger and more robust compared to the males.

Green Jade Shrimp are known for their hardiness and ease of care, making them an ideal choice for both beginner and experienced shrimp keepers. They can adapt well to a wide range of water parameters, although they thrive in stable and well-maintained aquarium conditions. The recommended water temperature for Green Jade Shrimp is between 70 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit (21 to 26 degrees Celsius), with a pH range of 6.5 to 8.0.

These shrimp are primarily herbivorous, feeding on biofilm, algae, and decaying plant matter in the aquarium. However, they also appreciate occasional supplementation with high-quality shrimp-specific foods, such as algae wafers, blanched vegetables, and specialized shrimp pellets.

In terms of behavior, Green Jade Shrimp are peaceful and non-aggressive. They are generally active and enjoy exploring their surroundings, scavenging for food, and interacting with other tank inhabitants. They are known to exhibit interesting social behavior and can be kept in groups, preferably in a well-planted aquarium with hiding spots and ample space for foraging.

Breeding Green Jade Shrimp is relatively straightforward, and they are known for their prolific reproductive capabilities. Females carry and protect eggs until they hatch into miniature shrimplets. The shrimplets are independent from birth and will grow into adults with proper care and a suitable environment.
